We often see patients who are dealing with dental pain caused by:

  • Advanced tooth decay

  • Gum disease

  • Impacted wisdom teeth

  • Implant infection (peri-implantitis)

  • Tooth infection

  • Broken and/or missing

  • Defective filling

Why is my toothache worse at night?

People often find that their tooth pain increases at night. This is usually because when you are lying down, blood rushes to your head. This can increase the pressure (and pain) that you feel from a toothache.

What is the best painkiller for a toothache?

Most people find that ibuprofen can help calm symptoms and offer temporary relief. You might also want to try an over-the-counter topical pain-relieving gel, like Orajel. Be sure to consult with Dr. Hansen before you use a pain reliever that’s new to you.

How long does a toothache last?

You should never ignore tooth pain — especially if it’s been more than 1-2 days and your pain has not subsided. You should also be on the lookout for signs of facial swelling, tenderness to the touch, earaches, or fever. If any of these symptoms occur, seek immediate help.
